February with Sitto and Grandpa Glenn

Last weekend we took a little mini vacation to visit with Sitto and Grandpa. Brian was able to leave work early and we actually got there before 10 pm! We even got there in time for dinner!

Our weekend was filled with fun, Daniel let go of his farm and stood on his own for about 2 seconds, he also did a lot of stair climbing with Sitto and I always new he would be a gymnast. Why? You may ask. Daniel was doing pull ups on sitto's kitchen table... with just a hand under his bottom so he would not fall.

On Saturday morning, Mary, her friend Teressa and I went to yoga class together. To my joy it was an Iyengar yoga class which I have always wanted to try. Maureen was our instructors name...she was awesome! She new exactly where our trouble areas were and I am still feeling the benefits of our practice today.

Our weekend was wonderful...our trip home was a little rough. We stopped about 5 times...due Daniel screaming and finding that each time he was poopy...he never goes this much at home. So we get to about an hour away and mommy now has to potty and we are all hungry. I go into Wendys and as soon as I got in a stall a woman rushed in and started vomiting in the stall next to me. Since I see..hear... do where vomit is concerned, I had to stop going to the bathroom and plug my ears till she was done. After I got back in the car and told Brian, he pointed out that the same woman and her granddaughter were hurling in the parking lot as well. What a trip home, screaming, pooping, puking...double yucky!

We are home now safe and sound and everyone is doing great today. Hopefully our next trip up won't have as many yuckies

Happy Anniversary

The Kandells
February 16, 2010

Two years ago today was our wedding, it was sunny and warm...today it was about 25 degrees and Daniel and I are snowed in.
One year ago today, I was pregnant. Awaiting the arrival of Daniel Glenn Kandell, and knowing our lives would never be the same.
Tonight Brian brought me red roses and Jelly Belly Jellybeans. We had a simple but lovely dinner of rice, Tilapia, and cottage cheese with a yummy glass of red wine. Daniel sat with us while we ate and proceeded to try a little bit of Cottage cheese and Tilapia himself...I think he enjoyed it. It's hard to believe Brian and I have been together for just over four years, married for two, and Daniel is almost a year old. Time really does fly when your having fun.

Tonight while my babe lay sleeping in my arms, I rocked him and gazed at his peaceful face. Then I looked at Brian, "I wish I could stop time, just stay in this moment." Oh but all the wonderful things I would miss, such an incredible gift, the gift of life.

Dr visit on 2/9/2010

February 6, 2010
Sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa Snodgrass

I know this is a couple of days late, but Daniel had a great visit with Dr. Norby on Tuesday. Of course, we were the only knuckleheads who went to the Dr. in the middle of a snowstorm, not the brightest idea, but we are only about a mile away, so it wasn't too bad. So here are his stats: Weight: 19.5 lbs (25th percentile)
Height: 28.5 "(50th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18"

He is doing great, had no shots thank goodness! Dr. Norby was greatly impressed by how Daniel is progressing. He is doing things that many babies don't do till they reach 1 yr to 15 months. He has a ton of teeth, which we are now brushing twice a day, we are also adding lunch to his daily routine and "quiet" time. This is an hour each day set aside for Daniel to play in his crib, or nap, or even scream while mommy takes a short break as well. I know some parents don't agree with letting a baby cry, but sometimes even mommy needs a little bit of a break. With Daniel's sleep schedule ever changing and my boy wanting to stay up between 6 and 7 am, it makes for a long day, and mommy needs a little time to regroup after several hours of play, music, dancing, feeding and even a bit of crying from time to time (sometimes from both of us). Motherhood is such a wonderful experience, but even I get a little overwhelmed with it all from time to time. Daniel is having a wonderful week, and we have enjoyed a week snowbound in the house. We are ready for a fun time at Great grandma and grandpas tomorrow night for dinner.

Daniel is a Smart Boy

I know I just put up a post, but I had to mention that Daniel is a very smart little boy. He started doing a few new things this week. First off, on Friday, he finally started pulling himself up to a seated position all by himself. He has been doing "the lean" for a couple of months now, and we have been watiting for the moment when he would sit up all by himself. He also started pointing to objects and making a sound as if to ask "What is that?!" He started off doing this to the Black Beetle and the White Puppy in his Colors book from Sitto and grandpa Glenn. Tonight he pointed to items in the bathroom...the faucet, yellow sponge, and the plunger. He is also talking jibberish a lot more the past couple of days. Let's see, is there anything else? Yep, he now has eight teeth, and we think his molars are starting to bother him. Daniel goes to see Dr. Norby on Tuesday for his nine month well check and no shots, yipee! I will let everyone know how his appointment goes on Tuesday afternoon. Here are a few new pics from the last week...enjoy!

CATS!

What an absolutely wonderful weekend we have had. One of our Christmas presents were tickets to see the Broadway musical CATS (thanks again Bobby). We woke up Saturday morning, and started getting Daniel's overnight bags, toys, diapers and all other items we could think of to take to grandma and grandpa's house. It's amazing how much you end up pulling together for a night out...surprisingly, it's almost the same amount of stuff we get together for an afternoon with the great grandparents, which we visit once or twice a week for a few hours at a time. Then I decided that it was time to cover up a little gray (I seriously have a ton), style my hair down and even apply a little bit of makeup. By the way, most of you know I live in my yoga clothes, a ponytail and moisturizer...so this was a huge transformation for the evening.

About 1:00 in the afternoon we all piled into our little Ford Focus and were off to the Haungs' house where we met up with Grandma and Grandpa Snodgrass.

I know it may seem ridiculous, but when no one was watching I did shed a few tears, but held it together very well I reckon. Daniel handled his night very well, mom and dad said he went to bed around 9:00 pm, woke up around 3 am for a quick feeding, then slept the rest of the night till about 6:30 am. They said he was the happiest baby, he didn't cry...not even once! He spent his weekend laughing and playing.

After Daniel left, Brian and I went to Red Lobster and had a delicious seafood dinner, including a Sam Adams for Brian and a top shelf Margarita for me, and boy was it great! Then we went to down town Cincinnati's Aranoff Center for CATS! This was a wonderful show, starting out in darkness with cat eyes glowing all over the auditorium, and ending with the beautiful solo Memory. I didn't know the story line, but the end was sad and I did a bit of tearing up...I won't ruin it for those of you who have not yet seen it. Definitely a great show for anyone to see.

After the show we came home and watched the AKC dog show for a while sipping on a glass of Spatlesse then off to bed around 1 am. I think Brian and I were thinking we would likely sleep till noon today, but instead we were up and ready to go at 7:30 this morning. I did not have a hard time sleeping, but I did wake up a few times expecting to hear Daniel talking jibberish to his imaginary friends and standing in his crib with a smile on his face just waiting for mommy and daddy to come get him. It was so strange, how quiet the house was without our little angel...we were stumped about what to do with ourselves.

Our boy is now home though, I am glad he had fun, and our short break was deeply appreciated. We are glad to have Daniel home now, and want to thank Grandma, and grandpa for taking care of our boy... we love you :)

Next night out is girl's night out...Great grandma, grandma, aunt Bev and I are all going to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra March 25, and I can't wait!

Playdate with Lauren and Raven

Yesterday, Daniel and mommy went to visit a good friend in Friendship Indiana. Mommy's friend from yoga training Lauren and her little girl Raven. I think Daniel and Raven had lots of fun playing...Daniel showed Raven his Farm, and Raven taught Daniel how to make music by banging on pots. They looked so cute together and we look forward to our next playdate very soon.
