Happy to Be Home

What a weekend, delicious Thanksgiving dinner and fun times with my in-laws. I am so grateful to have such a loving and caring family. Although I love spending time with the family, I am always ready to come back home. I was especially ready after all of the car problems on Wednesday, and spending the whole day in the backseat on the way home today. My stomach has always been a little queezy in the backseat of a car, but tonight it seems to be hanging on. I have been upstairs in bed for about 40 minutes now. I am also re training Daniel to sleep. He has been of of his schedule for a few days, now that we are back home he needs to get back into the swing of things. This being said, he has been crying now for about an hour. I have checked him after 5 minutes, 10, and 15 minutes and at this very moment he has stopped. We will see how long this lasts. :)

Part of the reason he is having trouble sleeping is because of his teeth. I have a love/hate relationship when he gets teeth in. I love to see him growing, and reaching these awesome milestones, especially seeing his cute little teeth. It makes him so uncomfortable during the night though, and tylenol just doesn't seem to do the trick for him. I feel bad that I can't keep the pain at bay for long, the constant cuddling seems to help, but after four nights of this, with serious lack of sleep, I am ready for him to even sleep till 4 am straight. The past couple of nights he has been waking every couple of hours, and the only way he will go back to sleep is if he is cuddling and nursing. I love my baby boy and I am so excited that his top two incisors are now coming through. We are getting Christmas pictures this coming weekend, and I wish they were visible for his pictures, but I don't think they will show up yet, but he will look so adorable with two on top and two on the bottom. I figure his teeth should be fully visible around Christmas time.

This weekend we get to celebrate St. Nicholas day. I will have to get a boot for Daniel to set out on the fifth, and let the spirit of the season weave its magic. St. Nicholas will likely bring Daniel a stuffed animal since he is not at an age yet for candies. Then in the evening on the sixth maybe we can go to The Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo. This is going to be such a fun end to the 2009 year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay, well to all of you who have not heard, we had a very adventurous trip to Sitto and Grandpa's in Sandusky, Ohio. I am going to take you on one of the most interesting days we have had in a while.

So, our morning started wonderful. Daniel and I woke up around ten in the morning after taking a short morning nap. We then went downstairs and mommy made Daniel his breakfast, Oats and bananas. After a wonderful meal I figured, " Hey, my boy is fed and happy, I will put him in his exercauser and let him play while I get busy on housework and start packing for our trip this evening!" Well, this plan did not work out exactly as I had hoped and to make a long story short, mommy neglected herself and spent a few moments napping and crying with Daniel...Oh, the drama!

I felt much better after our little breakdown together, but at 4:30 when we both got up I still had not finished any housework or even started packing. I ended up having Brian help me finish up when he got home for work around 6:00 p.m. I thank my lucky stars for such a caring and understanding husband, we were in the car and on our way at 7:00 p.m.

Around 9:45p.m. and just past the halfway point on our 4 hour journey the car decided it had had enough. It died on the shoulder of Southbound I-71. We were about an hour and a half from Sandusky, and now we were stranded. Brian and I with our six month old baby boy Daniel....this is no fun! We all stayed very calm and waited patiently, bundled up in our car for Mary and Glenn and the towing company to rescue us. We got to Mary and Glenn's around two this morning and finally went to sleep around three. What an adventure for Daniel's first Thanksgiving, it will definitely be one to remember.

Today was much better, we are so thankful for everyone in our family, especially to have inlaws that are willing to come out in the middle of the night and drive almost 2 hours to rescue their son's family. We love you Mary and Glenn! For all of our family and friends near and far, we love you all and wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

A Simple Tuesday

Just an all around great day today. Daniel always wakes up with a beautiful smile on his face, today was no exception. We woke up around 10 a.m. and got our day started right away. Daniel and I got up, got dressed and then went to visit with Great Grandma and Great Grandpa. Once we got there I fixed Daniel his Barley Cereal, and mashed up some Banana and then we headed to Toys R Us. Daniel spent his day with wide eyes and smiles looking at all the toys and lights in the toy store, as mommy and grandma worked on getting at least a few of his Christmas gifts. Mommy and daddy still have Christmas shopping to do, maybe Grandma and Grandpa Snodgrass would like to babysit one afternoon so we can go out. :)

This is such a new experience for Brian and I. It is our first Christmas with a baby in our family, and I don't know about him, but going through the toy stores I am just baffled about what we should give our beautiful boy. I have ideas though, and I am hoping to get some crocheting done on our car rides this weekend, and at Sitto and grandpa's house. I am working on scarves, slippers and for Daniel a stacker toy.

Tomorrow, we are going to try to leave for Sitto and grandpa's. I am excited about this Thanksgiving, especially since it is Daniel's first. I am going to be able to let him try some new foods this week, I hope he enjoys them. Oh well, I think it's about time to say goodnight, and I can't wait to see my baby boy smiling at me in the morning. :)

Weekend BeforeThanksgiving

What an awesome weekend we have had! Thanks to Mary and Glenn for bringing us a gently used new lazy boy couch for our home, it was sorely needed, and for the hiking backpack for Daniel. Friday evening Dad, Brian, Glenn and our good friend Phil all helped move the old couch out of our home and our new couch in. Thank you boys! Then Mary had a brilliant idea, she said lets see what this boy can do. We moved the furniture around and put Daniel on the floor and let him 'Crawl' around. He was great! Daniel made his way from the living room to the dining room either on hands and knees or hands and feet. He would push his bottom in the air and balance on his toes and then lunge forward. This evening he almost surprised us a couple of times getting very close to sitting himself up!

Mary also brought us a hiking backpack for Daniel, we went to the park this afternoon for a test run and I must say, my little peanut LOVED his backpack! Brian and I both tried it although my shoulders were getting a little sore after just a few minutes. We figured out the trick to that is for mommy to tighten her belt a bit more so that the weight is more distributed over her hips instead of her shoulders. Such a wonderful weekend for us.

A Rainy Tuesday

It's hard to imagine that there is anything to talk about on a totally gloomy Tuesday, but it has turned out to be a great afternoon. Daniel and mommy took a 2 1/2 hr nap this afternoon, and both of us woke up smiling and happy. I do feel a little out of it, due to the long nap, but to sleep that long I must have really needed it. I have made myself a cup of tea, I prepared apples for Daniel this morning that he can have as snack for lunch. I think we will work on some yoga today and get the laundry mountain folded that is sitting on top of my couch.

Growing by leaps and bounds

My baby boy is growing by leaps and bounds. Daniel had his six month appointment on November 9 at 2:00 in the afternoon. Dr. Norby said he is growing very well, and is very impressed by his progress. He is 16 lbs 12 oz, and 26 1/2 inches long. In the past month Daniel has cut his first two teeth (his lower incisors) and is very close to cutting his upper left incisor. He is sitting up tripod style, and is so close to crawling he can almost taste it. He literally gets into a tabletop position and launches his knees forward without moving his hands, so he eats carpet more often than not. I think he will be crawling by the end of November.

Daniel's diet is also changing. Mommy is having so much fun making homemade baby food. So far in the freezer I have Zucchini, Sweet Potatoes, Butternut Squash, and peas. I will have to start making fruits for him this week. We are starting some new cereal as well, Barley. He seems to like the taste, but we are not yet sure if it is okay on his stomach. I will try it for the next few days and see.

Brian and I are pretty much the same as always. Daddy got to spend the whole day with Daniel today while mommy went out for some me time :). It was needed, although I was missing my boys and ready to see them when I returned home. Brian and Daniel had a great day filled with fun and adventure at Costco. I heard Daniel was VERY interested in the food tastings.

Mommy is starting to bake and cook a lot more, and I have come to the conclusion that my cleaning times from now on will be in the evening after Danny boy goes to bed. He is such a joy to be around, but the only time he naps is if mommy naps with him. Oh well, hopefully the next baby will enjoy nap time as well with mommy, and we can always do our nap time as a group. Keep your fingers crossed, and maybe at this time next year baby number two will be on its way.
