Kandell Christmas 2009

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas this year , I know the Kandells did. This was our first Christmas as a family. So here is a recap of our Christmas festivities.

Christmas Eve we went to Mass at St. Ann's at 5:30 p.m. We had a great mass and Daniel even fell asleep for parts of it. Maybe next year we'll go to midnight mass...we'll see . :)

Right after Christmas eve Mass
Daniel went to bed around 9:00 and while he was sleeping we caught Santa leaving gifts. We woke up at about 7:30 and went downstairs to see what Santa had left. Daniel made out this year with lots of toys, new clothes, ornaments and books. After we were finished opening our gifts, we went to grandma and grandpa Snodgrass' house for brunch and gift exchange.

Our New mixer from Santa. Now I can make pastries all year round, including homemade egg noodles, without as much work.
At Grandma and Grandpa's we had a wonderful brunch which included scrambled eggs, bacon and toast, then we unwrapped presents. Daniel had a lot of fun unwrapping gifts from his family, and when we all gave grandpa his gift he was like a little boy himself. I think Brian and grandpa both will get use out of his new driver. Mommy got an ipod, daddy got an external hard drive, and Daniel got to finish his collection of Pooh when Grandma gave him Eeyore. After such a great morning who could ask for more....

Uncle Jason gave Daniel some stylin clothes from GapGrandpa's new driver
At 1:00 in the afternoon we headed to grandma and grandpa Haungs' house. Aunt Teressa and Uncle Ed were there, and we knew that Nick and Alysha would be there as well as our cousin's wife Courtney. We were so happy and surprised when our cousin Shawn came up the driveway. He had just went to Basic in Oklahoma and no one knew he was coming home for Christmas.

Grandma's new hat and scarf. I had just learned how to crochet cables, so grandma got the first cable crochet item. On December 26th we went to Northern Ohio to visit Sitto, Grandpa and uncle Bobby. We had a wonderful drive up and Daniel got some new toys from his Aunt and uncles, as well as more new books. We had a wonderful dinner whgich Uncle Bob and Grandpa used the new smoker to make. Sitto let Daniel taste many new things while we were visiting including smoked Briskit, apple juice and pizza! By the way, Daniel Looovves pizza :) At the end of our weekend Daniel got a visit from his godparents, Aunt Heather and Uncle Dave who brought him some more wonderful books for his home library. What an extraordinary year we have had. Daniel was born in May, and after seven months he still surprises us every day. Daniel learned how to pull himself up to standing on Christmas Eve.
Happy New Year!

Weekend Recap

What a wonderful weekend we had. Saturday was the beginning, Daniel, daddy and I went with grandma and grandpa Snodgrass, and grandma Haungs to see the Festival of lights at the Cincinnati Zoo. We got our Picture taken with Rudolph, and got to see many wonderful creatures. Our first stop was to the reptile hut...we saw several snakes, and we even saw a cute little gecko that reminded us of the Gieco gecko. From here we went to the Cat House, and for the first time in several years our zoo has meerkats (don't know if that's spelled correctly or not). Next stop was to get something to drink and feed Daniel. Daddy brought a cheese coney and a deep fried twinkie for us to munch on. We then headed over to visit the reindeer, they are beautiful animals, but after an hour and a half Daniel finally told us he had enough and was ready to go home. The lights at the park were beautiful, and although we lost battery we were able to get at least a few shots before returning home. I will post photos from the weekend later.

Sunday we went to aunt Alice and uncle Ricks' house in Columbus, Ohio for the Kandell white elephant Christmas. When we got there Daniel's cousin Austin was napping...something Daniel does rarely. Once Austin got up, Daniel was all over him. He doesn't get to see too many babies, so this was really exciting for him. Poor Austin though, every time Daniel would reach for him or head-butt him Austin would announce that he was not in the mood. I think by the end of the evening the boys were enjoying each others company more. Daniel was awake the whole day, but around seven he finally started feeling a bit overtired. He slept well last night, and had a wonderful day today.

This weeks agenda includes: Baking for cookie exchange on Thursday evening, making sure our home is at least presentable for Santa next week, Dinner with the grandparents at The Boathouse before they go to see Trans Siberian Orchestra (I will go next year by the way:)) and preparing for the baking madness of the week of Christmas. I love the holidays and have truly enjoyed all the fun we've been having.

First bath with mommy in the big bathtub

Today has been a pretty good day. Poor little Daniel though, we woke up at about 7:30, nursed and then headed off to the Dr.'s at 9:00 for a N1H1 vaccine. :( I know, I know, some of you all don't agree with this, and trust me, it was not an easy decision for daddy and I to come to either. We want what's best for our boy though, and we felt it's better to be safe than sorry. Daniel is such a trooper though...he cried for only a moment when the shot was given and as soon as he was back in mommy's arms he had a smile on his face.

When we returned home Daniel and mommy played, and tried some yoga, and played some more. Around 12:30 mommy decided she was hungry and it was time to put Daniel down for a matter how long he cried. He just woke up and that puts his total nap time at 26 minutes today... I haven't even finished cooking my pasta yet. I love my boy to death, but I really need a break.

We had such a fun time getting pictures taken yesterday, and they really turned out good! We also celebrated St. Nicholas Day today. Daniel got us up around 8:30 this morning and we came downstairs so he could check out his stocking. Hopefully I will be able to find a cheap plastic boot for next year. So here a few more photos from this morning. Oh, I almost forgot...Daniel is cutting yet another tooth so that makes 5 teeth before Christmas! Who knows, we still have two more weeks maybe we'll see more. Hope everyone had a Happy St. Nick Day!
